Join Us for a Free Children’s Pony Tracking Day at Bellever Wednesday 29 July

The Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust is delighted to invite families to our next Children’s Pony Tracking Day at Bellever on Wednesday 29 July.

This free event runs from 10.30am to 1pm and offers children the chance to explore Bellever, discover wildlife and learn more about Heritage Dartmoor Ponies.

What Happens on a Children’s Pony Tracking Day?

Our Children’s Pony Tracking Days help young people connect with nature while learning about one of Dartmoor’s most important native animals.

Children will have the opportunity to:

  • Track Heritage Dartmoor Ponies
  • Go bug hunting
  • Carry out simple wildlife quadrat surveys
  • Discover what pony poo can tell us about the environment
  • Take part in a treasure hunt

Along the way, children will learn how Heritage Dartmoor Ponies help care for the landscape. They will also discover how grazing benefits plants, insects and wildlife.

Discover Bellever

Bellever is one of the most fascinating places on Dartmoor. Today, it is known for its beautiful forest, open moorland and grazing ponies. However, the area also has a rich history.

Evidence of prehistoric settlement can still be found across the landscape. Ancient field systems and standing stones reveal how people lived and worked here thousands of years ago.

During the Children’s Pony Tracking Day, families will explore this special area while learning about both its wildlife and its heritage.

Meet the Heritage Dartmoor Ponies

The Heritage Dartmoor Ponies are always a highlight of the day.

These traditional, true-to-type ponies help manage habitats through conservation grazing. As a result, they support a wide range of plants, insects and other wildlife. They are also an important part of Dartmoor’s cultural heritage.

Book Your Place
