Brief
- Develop, test and refine new online education materials for pupils up to Key Stage 3 on subjects relevant to the National Curriculum effectively utilising examples from Dartmoor, the ponies native to Dartmoor and their role on the moor; its landscape, biodiversity, archaeology and heritage.
- Work in liaison with DPHT’s school partners, staff and Trustees, both in school and at the charity’s conservations grazing site at Bellever on Dartmoor.
Purpose
This collaborative workshop brought together the project team, DPHT staff members, Moorland Guides, and teachers to brainstorm and shape the educational direction of the NLHF project – saving the spirit of Dartmoor. The aim was to explore how to create meaningful and engaging educational experiences, both in-person and online.
Key Discussion Areas
- Learning Focus: Exploring how to use the project to help KS2 students learn about Dartmoor’s unique landscape, biodiversity, archaeology and heritage whilst encompassing the Dartmoor Heritage ponies.
- Curriculum Fit: Discussions around where and how the DPHT educational material could fit into the school curriculum (e.g. science, geography, environmental studies).
- Field Learning: Ideas on incorporating field trips or outdoor experiences as a key part of the learning journey.
- Online Materials: Identifying the need for new, engaging digital resources to support classroom learning and remote access.
- Timeline – A rough timeline was drafted to guide the next steps for content development and school engagement
