Fundraising Trustee Opportunity with the Dartmoor Pony Heritage
Help shape the future of the Dartmoor Heritage Pony and Dartmoor’s living landscape
The Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust is seeking a Fundraising Trustee to join its Board and support the long-term future of one of Britain’s most important native pony populations.
The Dartmoor Heritage Pony has shaped Dartmoor’s landscape for centuries. These semi-feral ponies play an important role in conservation grazing, biodiversity and the cultural identity of Dartmoor National Park. As the Trust continues to expand its work protecting the Heritage Pony population and supporting sustainable grazing on the moor, we are looking for an experienced fundraising professional to help guide the organisation’s strategic future.
This is an opportunity to use your expertise to support meaningful conservation work with lasting impact.
About the Role
As Fundraising Trustee, you will take the lead on behalf of the Board of Trustees for strategic fundraising matters, helping to design, develop and oversee the Trust’s fundraising strategy whilst supporting the long-term sustainability of the organisation.
You will work closely with fellow Trustees, the Operations Team and external partners to identify new funding opportunities, strengthen donor engagement, support fundraising campaigns and events, and help diversify the Trust’s income streams.
You will provide strategic advice on fundraising plans and opportunities, helping the Board make informed decisions that support the future growth and resilience of the charity.
This is a strategic governance role within a growing conservation charity working at the heart of Dartmoor National Park.
Time Commitment
The expected time commitment is approximately one day per month, together with attendance at quarterly Board meetings.
Skills and Experience
We are looking for someone with:
- Experience of fundraising within the charity or not-for-profit sector
- Knowledge of developing fundraising strategies and diversifying income streams
- Experience of donor engagement, fundraising campaigns, events or grant funding applications
- Strong strategic thinking and communication skills
- The ability to explain fundraising opportunities and challenges clearly and effectively
- A collaborative and supportive approach
Knowledge or experience relating to conservation, land management, equine or rural sectors would be welcomed.
Who We Are Looking For
We are particularly interested in hearing from people who are:
- Passionate about protecting the Dartmoor Heritage Pony and the landscape of Dartmoor National Park
- Strategic, creative and collaborative
- Curious, supportive and willing to challenge constructively
- Interested in becoming actively engaged with the organisation and the region
Why Join the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust?
This is an opportunity to contribute directly to the future of a rare native pony population and support practical conservation work across Dartmoor.
The work of the Trust helps protect a living part of Dartmoor’s heritage while supporting biodiversity, sustainable grazing and the long-term future of the moorland landscape.
By joining the Board of Trustees, you will help shape the next chapter of this important work whilst supporting the development of a sustainable funding base that allows the charity to achieve its ambitions.
