Malcolm Snelgrove – Ambassador PR and Communications

Malcolm Snelgrove is an award-winning photographer, conservation advocate and former Chair and Trustee of the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust. Having first become involved with the Trust in 2016, he now serves as a DPHT Ambassador, supporting the charity through public relations, communications and as an advisor to the Board of Trustees.

Through his photography, Malcolm works closely with Dartmoor pony keepers to document and showcase their multi-generational herds, capturing not only the beauty and character of the ponies but also their vital contribution to conservation grazing, biodiversity and the protection of Dartmoor’s unique landscapes.

Before moving into the technology industry, Malcolm began his career in agriculture, managing a 2,000-head flock of sheep alongside mixed arable farming on the South Downs. He later joined Canon UK before establishing an international career in enterprise technology. Having lived on Dartmoor for more than two decades, Malcolm has dedicated much of his photographic work to studying and documenting the native pony herds and their increasingly recognised role in nature recovery and habitat management.

His work has received international recognition through exhibitions, publications and conservation projects, and forms the foundation of his ongoing Wild Equus® initiative, which documents the ecological importance of wild and semi-wild horses and ponies around the world.
