Paint a Dartmoor Pony competition launches
A new competition at this year’s Hatherleigh Festival is inviting people to capture the spirit of Dartmoor through its native ponies.
The Paint a Dartmoor Pony competition offers participants a pre-cut MDF pony to decorate, with one entry per person costing £25. Cut-outs can be collected from Salar Gallery during the festival and throughout July, as well as from the festival stall at the Saturday street market on July 11.
Entries should be painted or decorated and returned to Salar Gallery by September 1, with judging taking place later in the month. The finished pieces will then be auctioned to raise funds for the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust and Hatherleigh Festival.
Prizes of £100, £50 and £25 will be awarded for first, second and third place, with a separate prize for entrants aged 16 and under. The competition is kindly sponsored by Sonia Lindsay and Sally Vick.
The Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust works to secure a future for Dartmoor’s native ponies, which have roamed the moor for centuries and remain a recognised symbol of the National Park, marking its 75th anniversary this year.
