Student Volunteer Spotlight: Niccolet Guerrero at the Pony Roundup

Plymouth University student Niccolet Guerrero recently joined the DPHT for a voluntary placement, contributing to a memorable pony roundup near Bellever Tor. The event, held on a stormy Wednesday, gathered a diverse mix of volunteers including students, locals, and pony lovers.

Teams, including Niccolet and her fellow geography students Nutaya and Ellie, were tasked with tracking and rounding up the semi-feral ponies. Using hay as bait and coordinating via walkie-talkies, the volunteers worked tirelessly to corral the ponies. Niccolet noted the rewarding experience of luring the ponies and the sense of community as everyone collaborated in the effort.

Throughout the day, the team successfully checked and treated each of the thirty ponies, ensuring their health and well-being before releasing them back onto the moors. Niccolet reflected on the importance of conservation work and the personal passion driving these efforts, making the event a true celebration of Dartmoor’s natural beauty and heritage.
