Enhancing Safety for Dartmoor Ponies: A Collaborative Effort

The Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust (DPHT) is excited to announce a significant step forward in protecting Dartmoor’s iconic ponies. In collaboration with the Dartmoor Breeders & Keepers and the Livestock Protection Society, six yearlings have been equipped with reflective collars. These collars are designed to enhance the safety and visibility of the ponies, especially during low-light conditions.

Found grazing on the moors above Widecombe, these yearlings are enjoying their summer, frolicking and growing in their natural habitat. The reflective collars are part of a broader initiative to ensure the welfare of Dartmoor ponies, reducing the risk of accidents and promoting their well-being.

This initiative not only highlights the importance of preserving Dartmoor’s native breed but also showcases the collaborative efforts needed to maintain and protect this unique heritage. The DPHT remains committed to working with local breeders, keepers, and organizations to ensure the continued survival and prosperity of Dartmoor ponies.
